Feasts of the Senses / Kars and His Time

Here is the English translation of the text: Georges Kars, also known as Jiří Karpeles, found himself in the right place at the right time. A boy from Kralupy nad Vltavou, born to a Jewish miller, he showed artistic talent from an early age, which he first developed during his studies in Munich. Then came a fateful change of scenery – Paris, the 1920s. The exuberant interwar period, though no one called it that at the time, marked an extraordinary cultural blossoming for Paris. Not only in Gertrude Stein’s apartment, but throughout the city, a remarkable number of talents gathered – from Picasso to “our” Kars. Although this exhibition is mainly about him, you will certainly notice that it is complemented by works from other artists. These are all people Kars may – or may not – have met. All those who might have been sitting two tables away from him in a brasserie. All those who might have passed him on a Paris street with a canvas in hand. All those who, like him, sat in the garden of Suzanne Valadon’s studio in Montmartre. All those who believed they were destined to make something of themselves. This exhibition is dedicated to all the dreamers.

Medek, Koblasa / Acquisition

The exhibition Medek, Koblasa / Acquisition was installed, but the covid season came and the galleries closed to the public. We let the exhibition "hang" until the beginning of 2024. We enjoyed it more privately after the release from 2022. The exhibition was visited by many groups of students, experts and gallerists, who could also listen to guided tours led by the owners of the collection. The Medek, Koblasa exhibition presented the works of these giants of Czech fine art, and we also installed paintings or objects from our collections that had never been exhibited and which we gradually purchased during the years 2022 to 2024. The exhibition was therefore continuously updated and took on new dimensions that brought wonderful impressions and experiences. Among the works that were exhibited, we can mention Medka's two famous blue paintings The Wool and The Egg, paintings from the period of surrealism and also from the 60s. Koblasa was represented by his objects from the 1960s, the iconic bronze Nuda from 1957, as well as his painting. The pair's 1962 joint work The Altar of the Virgins dominated this unique exhibition. The Acquisition were displayed in one smaller exhibition hall and the display also changed according to the current purchases. Worth mentioning is Girl in Black by Bedřich Piskač, a beautiful nude by František Zdenek Eberl, Matalovo They cut a little boy to the hall etc.
