THE ZLATA HUSA GALLERY
GALLERY ZLATÁ HUSA manages one of the largest publicly accessible private art collections in the Czech Republic.

The owner of the collection, Dr. Vladimír Železný, has been building this collection of Czech fine art since around 1997. The market at that time offered a number of excellent works. Some were gradually restituted from state funds, others were acquired from the descendants of original collectors either directly or through auctions. We must also not overlook the important fact that a significant number of works were returned to the Czech Republic, thanks to great personal effort and considerable expense, from abroad.

Another significant source of acquisitions were the studios of artists from the 1960s generation, whom Vladimír Železný knew and admired as a young journalist and writer. Mutual respect and exceptionally correct relationships between these different worlds enabled Dr. Železný in many cases to have preferential rights to select numerous collections directly from the creators.

The basic collection, consisting of approximately 1000 works, was concentrated as early as 2000. Currently, this collection comprises around 1700 items. These include paintings, sculptures, and works on paper from the period 1900 - 1969.

This rich collection is also a significant source of material for exhibitions of other institutions, which often turn to Galerie Zlatá husa with requests for loans. Therefore, we can confidently state that no larger exhibitions in the territory of the Czech Republic can do without loans "from Husa" at present. This includes state institutions such as the National Gallery as well as smaller private galleries. In recent years, we have been pleased to note an increase in interest from international institutions in presenting Czech fine art. Works from Dr. Železný's collection are thus making their way to prestigious exhibition halls in cities like London, New York, Vienna, and Paris.
